3900 Alton, Miami Beach

3900 Alton marks the American condominium debut of Ricardo Bofill, founder of the Barcelona practice Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura. Developed by Mast Capital, the eight-story building holds 78 homes — 75 residences and three garden villas — on the Biscayne Bay side of Mid-Beach. Bofill's work is governed by what he called the genius loci, the spirit of a place, and here that reads as a transparent glass envelope that hands the bay back to the interior from first light to last.

Art is built into the program rather than hung on it. The collection was curated by ICart, with installations by Fernando Mastrangelo and Loris Cecchini in the lobby and on the pool deck, and an artistic feature commissioned for each residence. A landscaped pool terrace with a sunset bay-view deck runs alongside gardens laid out to screen the building from its neighbors.

Inside, ceilings reach ten feet, windows run floor to ceiling, and select homes are served by direct elevator access. Kitchens are Poliform with Sub-Zero refrigeration and Wolf cooking; a Savant system controls each residence from a phone or tablet. Residents hold access to a beach club with cabanas, lounges and beach service, alongside a fitness center, children's playroom, business center and social lounge.
